Owning a home has historically been one of the most important catalysts for wealth creation. However, America’s low wealth families face a number of barriers to homeownership, one of the most significant of which is affording a down payment.
The Mobility & Homeownership Program (MHOP) is a bold new initiative to replace conventional housing programs based on subsidized rents and/or investor returns with an evidence-based, structural response. MHOP translates downstream savings into down payments, empowering low-wealth families to own homes in high mobility neighborhoods, amass wealth, and invest in their children, thereby breaking the intergenerational reproduction of inequality.
