Abundance: Beyond Pledges to Action

Jasmine Jones July 12, 2022

Join this fireside chat to hear how three national funders have come together to take action towards Abundance. The Abundance movement is a recently launched call to action for philanthropy to move beyond platitudes to making tangible, long-term investments in Black-led efforts. The Abundance movement is a call to celebrate the joy, and power of Black-led and Black-centered efforts to achieve social and racial justice through financial support. The Abundance movement is about acknowledgement of conscious and subconscious narratives in philanthropy that say Black-led efforts are not worth the investment.

Purpose and Desired Outcome

Abundance is a movement to free mindsets, dollars, policies and practices to address anti-Blackness and White supremacy culture in philanthropy. Abundance requires distributing wealth differently and transforming philanthropy’s traditional power relationships. The goal is to ensure long-term and equitable distribution to Black-led (and centered) organizations. The session will: 1. Reflect on current unjust practices, policies and outcomes in philanthropy specifically as it pertains to Black people. 2. Discuss the Abundance concept and how it can help create structural and sustained change in philanthropy’s role in Black communities 3. Share concrete ways to shift practices, policies and outcomes to better support Black people and communities
