Leaders in philanthropy are in a unique position to help the community development field change its terms of engagement to center equity and justice. We know that communities of color are disproportionally experiencing the consequences of inflation, the ongoing pandemic, and a history of policy decisions that have deepened racial and economic inequities. How can philanthropy move beyond grant making to help communities realize their visions for system-level change? Two veterans of the field, David Fukuzawa and Nancy Andrews, will engage in a frank discussion with rising leaders Ja’Net Defell and Heather Parish that elevates examples from across the country of philanthropy leaning in on risk-taking investments that advance equitable community development.
