Can We Shift Power Without Shifting Systems?

Meg Massey May 30, 2021

Impact investment remains rooted in traditional financial structures and practices, with all of its positives and problems. It’s proved a safe way to build momentum, but in light of rising global inequality and awareness of historic injustices, commitments to equity and empowerment at the fund level can seem like changes at the margins.

All of this begs the question: what’s the tipping point for a much bigger change in wealth, power, and investment?

With a focus on the African continent, panelists will discuss the traditional roots of impact investing as we know it, and the alternative models emerging that would challenge orthodoxies in the field, including questions of ownership. The discussion will paint a picture of what this system change could really look like.
