Climate change is one of the, if not the, most significant issue we will face in our lifetimes and urgent change is needed. Climate impact investors are often focused on early-stage investment opportunities in the private markets. With this approach, are they overlooking meaningful impact opportunities in the public markets? Much of the public market offerings have been focused on ESG, which may have fallen short of investors’ expectations and leading to some challenges of this methodology. In this session, we will present pure investment opportunities in the climate market from both a financial and an impact investing perspective. Join us as we discuss these opportunities, how to access them and how to think about investing in public markets beyond ESG. We will explore the three pillars of climate investing and ways to invest in 1) tightening climate regulation, 2) “greening” equities, and 3) the metals needed for electrification. Climate impact investors can play a significant role in solving climate change. This session seeks to explore the public market opportunity, how it is not confined to just ESG, and why public markets should not be ignored by climate impact investors.
