This year has spotlighted, like never before, the critical state of youth wellbeing in this country. We’ve heard from the Surgeon General and from the young people in Headstream’s community about the impact technology has on teens as they grow up. For many young people, especially youth of color and queer youth, the systems intended to help them transition to adulthood do not meet their needs. The digital world can mirror the realities of the physical world. These digital spaces provoke and amplify the most negative components of the systems that young people are growing up in.
Since its inception, Headstream has engaged teens, technologists, and other experts to understand the relationships young people have with technology and how digital connectivity has changed their lives. The reality is that technology is embedded in every facet of youth life. Headstream believes that entrepreneurs have the power to create digital spaces and products that support, empower, and allow young people to thrive. The goal of the Headstream is to lead a digital evolution that rethinks the way we innovate, develop, and fund social technologies for the next generation. The only we can do that is to listen, learn, and integrate that feedback into these technologies.
