Our session will provide a deep dive on corporate diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) practices, reporting and next steps. There is research from numerous reputable sources (McKinsey, Stanford Business School, The Wall Street Journal, etc) that say diversity matters; that diverse companies outperform their peers. However, the DEI programs, stories and promises from companies are all over the map. How meaningful is the work being done? This discussion will cover expectations around DEI policies and practices, how to assess the effectiveness of a company’s DEI efforts, and what “woke-washing” looks like. Our conversation will be informed by conversations with over 70 companies about their DEI programs, the barriers that keep them from being more transparent, and where progress is being made. This session will also give insight into how the racial justice movement has catalyzed real changes in corporate DEI strategies.
