Designing for Systems Change at Trillion Dollar Scale

Astrid Scholz July 1, 2022

The funding gap for successfully addressing the SDGs by 2050 and averting complete climate disaster is estimated at $50 Trillion. Yet founders, funders, and their stakeholders continue to operate largely in isolation, with technology failing spectacularly to support the mobilization of knowledge, people and capital at the speed and scale necessary.

A critical missing ingredient is an agreed upon set of standards for how we collect, store, share and value information. Building upon previous sessions at SOCAP, join us for a robust discussion about standards – specifically solutions and deal standards – one of the least sexy and most vital aspects of designing systems for change.

Purpose and Desired Outcome

“Systems change” is one of the most frequently used and misunderstood terms in addressing the SDGs. Designing systems for change at the level of the Sustainable Development Goals requires more than commitments to collaboration. It requires the deliberate design of social, legal, and financial systems towards that end, implemented through a combination of contemporary and next-generation technical systems. The purpose of this session is to: enroll participants in the importance of developing standards for dramatically increasing the flow of knowledge, people and capital towards the resolution of the SDGs Educate participants as to how they can get involved in this work Discuss the risks of not developing standards with representatives from all stakeholder groups, especially those in the communities we seek to serve.
