Purpose and Desired Outcome

To truly move beyond silos and coordinate across more facets of difference, we must reimagine our systems of communication. This fireside chat aims to make new connections, through diversity of language, as a pathway to more inclusion. There are three main types of language we try to bridge across: verbal, through Native (https://www.nativechats.com), visual, through Sarah Grimm Studio (https://www.sarahgrimmstudio.com), and business, through the social justice projects that both enable. Furthermore, Native is a scaling tech startup with a social mission, while Sarah Grimm Studio is a brand-new, one-woman small business. Both are operating modalities that can make significant change. Often, local businesses lack capabilities to scale and scaling startups miss the mark on the community level; we seek to offer an example of how to facilitate conversation between the two types of business. Both the concrete tools that we offer and the conversation itself have been designed to bring about more positive change for all of us, and the natural world we need to regenerate in order for all species to thrive. This deconstructs traditional stories of how business is done and proposes that we can build new companies that create space for more inclusive ways of doing business with even more opportunities for cross-sectoral and dynamic collaboration across companies.
