Fixing The Tech Talent Pipeline Gap: Career Pathways for Opportunity Youth

Coree Schmitz July 13, 2022

The software field offers amazing pay, benefits, flexibility, and fulfilling work. In the last 10 years, bootcamp programs have proven the ability to reskill adult career changers and get them into high-growth careers. But for opportunity youth these pathways are just not there, with few schools or programs working to meet their specific needs. We’re leaving great people out and missing the opportunity to unlock tremendous potential. In this session, we’ll explore why youth have different learning needs, what we know can work, and how this population is our greatest opportunity to sustainably change the diversity of the industry.

Purpose and Desired Outcome

There is a gap between the spaces where we are willing to work to provide more equal access to opportunities for young people and where we know we need to work. Still very few employers are willing to hire from non-conventional programs. Through this conversation, the audience will understand how existing attempts at career training are successful for mid-career changers but overlook and leave out young people just starting their professional journey.
