General Collective Intelligence - The Most Important Innovation in Achieving the SDGs

Andy E Williams June 18, 2022

I’m writing to propose a talk at your next conference about why the newly emerging science of General Collective Intelligence (GCI) is the most important innovation in the world today with respect to achieving the sustainable development goals as well as the other topics addressed by your conference. This talk will be produced with the help of a large advisory panel of academics in a wide range of disciplines from computer science, to cognition, to economics, who will be able to provide corroboration for the claims that GCI can exponentially increase our general problem-solving ability (intelligence) as well as why such an increase has never been possible before, about what an exponential increase in ability to solve every problem in general means to the sustainable development goals specifically, and about how by this measure GCI might be the most important innovation in the history of civilization, one that promises to permit radically more sustainable processes along the entire life-cycle of every product or service from research and development, to manufacturing, to recycling. I created a sample trailer for a documentary on the subject (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sV6KYLK17I0). Because GCI is predicted to enable us to create technology so complex that our future selves just a decade down the road might seem alien to us, I’ve whimsically called this trailer “Becoming Extraterrestrials”.

Purpose and Desired Outcome

General Collective Intelligence has the potential to combine SDGs projects to create enough value for those projects to be sustainably self-funding. This promises to enable impact to be achieved at the scale at which it is required rather than the scale at which funding is available, making is possible to close the $23 trillion USD gap between the funding required to achieve the SDGs globally and the funding available to do so.
