In this fireside chat, James Weinberg, FUSE CEO and Alex Aime, FUSE alum and current director of emerging markets at Facebook discuss ways in which the private sector and public sector can better partner to create positive impact and transform outcomes for communities. Government spends billions of public dollars each year aimed at making an impact in communities, with complex systems for accountability. Alex Aime saw first hand the benefits and limits large government agencies face in their quest to achieve their mission, when she helped lead LA County’s efforts to connect justice-involved residents with good paying jobs. As a leader in emerging market investments, she brought an impact investors’ lens to her work, gaining deep insights into the challenges and opportunities the public sector faces. James Weinberg runs an executive fellowship program that brings cross-sector leaders into the public sector to tackle entrenched challenges facing communities. Together they will explore how to measure success when true community impact is the goal and how investing operations and practices might need to shift to harness the power of both the public and private sectors.
