How I Came to Care: The Power of Knowing & Sharing Your Impact Origin Story

Audience will participate in a facilitated Impact Timeline exercise where they’ll describe and depict their Impact Origin Story, answering questions like, “How I came to care,” and “The first time I felt like a ___ (philanthropist, activist, impact investor, etc.)” and other prompts, which they will then share in small circles using guided-discussion templates. Each small group will then build a shared timeline, using colored Post-its to mark five key impact milestones in their journey, marking when and where various key moments took place, and uncover places of overlap and convergence related to world events, personal chronology, etc. We will spend the last 30 minutes populating a Shared Future Timeline, wherein we will ask ourselves what work lies ahead and explore the prompt “What is my role?” and “Where are my allies?” Two co-hosts will share their stories at the outset of the session for inspiration and example.
