Investing in energy-smart local food systems

Meeting the goals of eradicating hunger and poverty by 2030, while addressing the threat of climate change, will require a profound worldwide transformation in the type of energy used in food and agriculture systems. Agriculture and food systems emit between 21-37 per cent of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and consume 30 per cent of the world’s available energy, with more than 70% occurring beyond the farmgate. This podcast would be an hour long podcast discussion hosted by Kristina Skierka, CEO of Power for All with an expert in food systems from a leading impact investing foundation. The podcast would  have a threefold objective: 

  1. The Potential of Distributed Renewable Energy in farming smarter and reducing emissions while still providing nutritious food for all
  2. The importance of driving investment dollars to power global food systems for quick deployment, significant savings, increased incomes through productive use, and strengthened more resilient local food systems. 
  3. Discussing inspirational impact stories from the ground
