Mobilizing private capital to build the impact investing market in Africa

Beril Dora May 31, 2021
Africa presents an enormous economic opportunity for investment, whilst ensuring inclusive and sustainable economic growth. Climate change will have a major effect on Africa and according to World Bank 86 million internal climate migrants are expected to come from Sub-Saharan Africa by 2050 and there is a substantial SME growth financing gap in the continent estimated at USD331bn. Therefore, it is important to grow the impact investing ecosystem and channel private capital to the region where financial return together with significant positive social and environmental impact can be achieved.
This discussion will focus on the impact investing ecosystem in the African continent, opportunities that are available and the value of focusing on this region.
