Lack of access to capital and limited capacity are often cited as the key reasons Black-led organizations struggle and fail. At Village of Wisdom, DEI Works, and Communities in Partnership– three Black-led nonprofits based in Durham,North Carolina– we’ve found that the conditions for Black innovation are created by rest, love, and collaboration. Via a conversation grounded in radical honesty, Black leaders from the south will discuss the struggles and successes of releasing the vestiges of white supremacy to unlock Black Genius and build sustainable, effective organizations.
Together, these leaders consider
- Scale vs. Legacy, how building community connection ensures long-lasting impact and scale across time
- Finding people with the needed skills and values to increase staff and board capacity; and
- Connecting with funders who understand the mission and that have the capacity for multi-year support.
