Over 1 TRILLION single-use items are thrown out each year in the US, poisoning our oceans, our wildlife, and our health. The impact of this crisis is particularly severe in cities, which cover 2% of the world’s land yet are responsible for over 50% of the world’s waste. Municipalities are now looking at ways to adopt a reuse strategy that not only reduces waste and conserves precious resources but also boosts economic development and unlocks revenue streams.
Now’s the time for radical collaborators and engaged key stakeholders to come together to accelerate this new reuse economy. This is happening in Seattle, where an innovative, public-private collaboration called “Reuse Seattle” – comprised of local and state agencies, global environmental foundations and local businesses – is building and activating a citywide reuse infrastructure, which includes food and beverage wares, collection, logistics, and washing services. This exciting work is setting global standards that will make reuse at scale a reality.
This session will showcase the “Reuse Seattle” program and look at the architecture, best practices, and challenges for replicating the model. Meet program developers from the city and private sectors and learn all of the opportunity areas and tools for leading impact across municipalities, companies and communities. Join the Reuse Revolution.
