Reimagining philanthropy - The rise of the recoverable grant

Jordana Fremed June 28, 2022

Most donors think of there charitable assets in a fairly narrow way. There is the money which has been set aside for charitable giving and is invested to provide returns – and there is the money that is being given away through grants. Recoverable grants are a tool specifically designed to provide nonprofit organizations with access to “risk” capital – which they can use to bridge funding gaps, scale programs, or test new solutions to entrenched challenges. And if the nonprofit hits their program goals, the capital can then be returned to the donor for additional philanthropic use. In this session we’ll explore trends in this space, how DAF sponsors and other entities can provide these to donors, how donors can incorporate these into their philanthropic approach, share examples of nonprofits putting these funds to work, and why we believe they are an exceptional addition to a donor’s tool kit.
