The Case for Business Diversity: Building Black Wealth through Anchor Collaboratives

Latresa Ryan May 28, 2021

Rooted partially in the work of the Atlanta Wealth Building Initiative, the session will highlight the ability of anchor collaboratives, and community wealth building strategies more broadly, to build wealth in the Black community as well as the need for companies, universities, foundations and nonprofits to seek diverse business talent. Speakers will explore the need not only for diversity and equitable procurement practices that build upon existing supplier diversity programs to ensure Black-owned businesses are considered as part of total procurement spend, but also the need to intentionally incorporate Black talent across the organization from senior leadership, board members, legal, communications, money management, human resources and information technology to achieve to achieve overall business diversity. Session will highlight Atlanta as a case study for building Black wealth.
