Please join us for a fast-paced, highly interactive role-playing activity about fighting climate change. The game is conducted as a simulated emergency climate summit organized by the United Nations to avoid catastrophic effects from global warming.
Using a climate change “flight simulator” called En-ROADS, participants are divided into teams that represent different global stakeholders of business, government, and civil society who can drive climate solutions. Once teams have brainstormed their game strategies, each team is invited to propose a climate solution to be implemented. These actions are analyzed in real-time with the simulator to determine their effects on the climate and teams negotiate with one another. The game is played until a scenario under 2°C warming is reached or time is up.
EN-ROADS, co-designed by MIT and the non-profit Climate Interactive, runs on an ordinary laptop in a fraction of a second, offers an intuitive interface and is carefully grounded in thirty years of the best available science.
A wide range of people have used En-ROADS, including US Climate Envoy John Kerry, science educator BIll Nye, members of the U.S. Congress, Governor Jay Inslee of Washington, the Hewlett Foundation, local community groups, the UN Secretary-General’s Office, university professors around the world, community groups around the world, the Energy Transition Forum in London, the U.S. Climate Action Network, and many others. In February, participants at GreenBiz 2020 rated it a workshop using En-ROADS the best session of the conference.
