Toward a New Capital Market for CDFIs, Catalyzing Racial and Gender Equity

Timothy Freundlich May 19, 2021

There is a massive opportunity to mobilize catalytic capital to CDFIs for racial and gender equity, unlocking opportunity for communities with new risk capital structures and a national campaign for philanthropic capital from the $150 billion in DAF assets and $850 billion in foundations, not to mention family offices and wealth managers at multiples of this $1 trillion in assets. By bringing innovation and new risk-taking capacity to the table we can reinvent ‘community investing’ to a new paradigm for acceleration of CDFIs as a capillary distribution system to communities in need. We will challenge leaders in the field and you, as attendees, to come up with a new mandate for impact together. This ‘fish bowl’ of experts will welcome participants into a creative design lab to hack the system together.
