Prosperity Candle L3C Launches Holiday Collection Created by Iraqi Women Entrepreneurs.

Megan McFadden October 5, 2010

With its unique mission to empower thousands of women entrepreneurs from areas of conflict and distress around the world, Prosperity Candle L3C is launching its inaugural Holiday Gift Collection created by women survivors of war in Baghdad, Iraq. Prosperity Candle L3C, a for-profit social venture, invests in women as independent and resourceful entrepreneurs, understanding they are critical to creating the foundations for peaceful and prosperous societies. ‘Six years ago we envisioned an innovative model called Shared Prosperity,’ states Ted Barber, one of the company’s founders. Simply stated, it is a business that prioritizes social benefit to a group that is among the most isolated from global commerce, women entrepreneurs in places of conflict, social unrest and natural disaster, and offers them ongoing support, sustained market access, and the opportunity to create a thriving business. We share Prosperity Candle’s profits with every woman who makes high quality candles for us every quarter as a valued partner in this social venture. Today, the company has successfully completed a one-year pilot in Baghdad with 69% of the women who exported Prosperity Candles earning above the minimum wage, launched a candle initiative with Iraqi refugees in Springfield, Massachusetts and is working with Haitian artisans to create candle accessories for its unique holiday collection. As Prosperity Candle raises capital for growth and expansion, it plans to scale up in Iraq and expand into both Rwanda and Haiti by 2012, eventually empowering thousands of women entrepreneurs. Prosperity Candle is seeking new partners as we move forward and we invite you to join us! Please contact Siiri Morley at siiri@prosperitycandle.com for more details.
