SOCAP11 Panelist Spotlight: Amy Pearl, Springboard Innovation

SOCAP August 8, 2011

What is your role in the Social Capital Market?
Decreasing search costs by getting entrepreneurs ready for investment, and investors ready (anxious!) for taking on risk.
What dream business idea do you have that could change the way we collaboratively work/consume/act in our daily lives?
Every city and community should have a place where people can create livelihoods for themselves and their families, while seeking to solve social or environmental problems… a reimagining of the current economic forces that would enable us to view ourselves as drivers of a future we all want, rather than constricting and narrowing our capacity to be human. A place where resources could be found, along with educational courses and workshops and professionals who would provide insight and innovation support. A place whereaverage citizens take on our future with vision and passion. Boomers want it, and Millennials want it. This place would get us out of the rut we’re in by offering a beacon of possibility.
What does Money + Meaning = to you? What should the social capital market stand for?
The last thing I want to see is a combination of two traditions. Two old guys sitting around playing a new game together are still two old guys. We need to really make decisions differently, under different rules. I see the social capital markets as three traditional words that have to spawn truly new frameworks for thinking about all three. For example, moving away from quarterly reporting to longer term thinking; or, embracing and valueing risk. That’s where we can kick the toads out of the road and have some serious fun, and make a real difference.
