Welcome to SOCAP17! It is the first day of the the tenth anniversary conference at the intersection of money and meaning and our work has never seemed more necessary than it does right now. This week we will celebrate how far we’ve come, while continuing the important conversations that bring us together. Many of our sessions will focus on the systemic origins of the challenges our community is working to solve, and the creation or implementation of solutions that will seed much needed change.
This year will truly be the best SOCAP yet. Here are a few of the unmissable moments happening during our first day:
Facilitated Networking
SOCAP organizers have arranged an opening day series of networking sessions by sector and geography, to help attendees meet other members of the SOCAP community who have similar interests right away.
Good Capital Project Workshops
Get involved in The Good Capital Project (GCP) to accelerate capital flows to purpose driven investments. GCP Design Workshops at SOCAP17 will offer you the opportunity to get involved, offer input, and help move this work forward. Tuesday GCP workshops are on:
Education Programs to Scale Impact Investing
The Impact Economy Supply Chain
Movement Makers: The Method Behind their Momentum
Context Partners has put together an interactive session on Movement Makers that will help you understand the most critical roles in movement building, while helping you identify the role you need to play in the movement you’re building.
ADAP Deal Room @ SOCAP17
Come to The Real Deal: ADAP Deal Room @ SOCAP17 to see eight seed stage ventures present to a panel of investors and SOCAP17 attendees. ADAP’s signature Four Hour Due Diligence process will allow them to select up to four companies to invest $75,000 in by Friday.
Tuesday Plenary: This is Urgent, and We Are Inspired
4:30 PM – 6:00 PM, October 10 on the Festival Mainstage, some of the most passionate and inspiring members of this global community will discuss the progress that has been made over the last decade and opportunities ahead to engage a broader audience in the conversation around investing in regenerative, equitable, culturally aware solutions. Plenary panelists include:
- Deborah Cullinan, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts
- Penelope Douglas, CultureBank
- Marc Bamuthi Joseph, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts
- Sonya Renee Taylor, The Body is Not An Apology
- Hunter Lovins, Natural Capitalism Solutions
- John Morris, SOCAP Group
- Audrey Selian, Artha Initiative

After the plenary, plan to stick around on campus for the SOCAP Soiree. At 6pm, we’ll kick off SOCAP17 with an opening night party with heavy hors d’oeuvres catered by Acre Gourmet.
