Ways to Save and Get Around in San Francisco
The value of in-person convening is central to our mission at SOCAP. The tangible relationships, conversations, and learnings coupled with the intangible benefits provided when we gather together are our reasons for being. We also recognize that traveling to be together comes with a tangible price tag. We know travel is expensive, so we have compiled some ways we’ve worked to lower the monetary barriers to attendance and other tips we have from years of traveling and hosting events in San Francisco. We hope to see you at SOCAP23, held October 23 to 25!
1) Book your hotel early and through TripZero. SOCAP has partnered again this year with TripZero to set up discounted hotel rooms for our attendees. You’ll find multiple hotel options (we went beyond the standard hotel chains) within walking distance of the event or readily accessed by public transportation. TripZero also purchases Certified Carbon Offset credits to help offset the carbon footprint of SOCAP23. Don’t wait to book — there are a limited number of rooms in these discounted blocks! Learn more here.
2) The Bay Area has multiple airports. In addition to San Francisco International (SFO), two other international airports in the area often have better deals. When you search for flights, include Oakland (OAK) or San Jose International Airport (SJC) as travel options.
3) Take advantage of international SOCAP pricing. We have instituted a Global Travel Initiative for attendees traveling from outside the U.S. and Canada: While we had more than 40 countries represented at SOCAP22, it’s not nearly enough. When we asked our network what we could do to amplify more global voices at SOCAP, it was clear the increasing and often prohibitive costs of international travel are barriers we needed to help overcome. Thanks to the generosity of our partners, we are able to offer reduced SOCAP23 ticket prices to our attendees traveling from outside the U.S. and Canada. We are investing in this global travel initiative because we believe in the transformational power of convening the entire ecosystem of impact from around the world.
You can apply as an individual or as a delegation for SOCAP23, which will be held in San Francisco, California, U.S., from October 23 to 25. The discounted price is based on your application, including geographic region. Details on how to apply are here.
4) Get to know BART and Muni. These are two of the various public transportation options available for getting around San Francisco without renting a car or in lieu of Uber or Lyft (which are also available all over the city). You can take a train from SFO or Oakland Airport directly to Powell Station to get to SOCAP. If you’re coming from the South Bay, a train connects to the new Muni subway line, which will get you to Moscone Center. Options in the city for transit abound — including bike shares and e-scooters. Learn more about all the options here and consider a Clipper card to make it convenient to use multiple transportation methods.
5) Breakfast and lunch are included in your registration! SOCAP works hard to bring fresh, local, healthy fare to the event each year, and SOCAP23 is no exception. Our breakfast and lunch offerings are locally catered and carefully sourced by ACRE Gourmet. Stay on-site for breakfast, lunch, and our networking events, with drinks and food provided, to spend more time connecting (and save!). Check the event’s general schedule to see breakfast and lunch availability.
