Infrastructure is not gender neutral. This discussion brings together leading development finance institutions  to discuss their commitments to addressing gender-based violence through infrastructure investments. Failure to address gender-based violence in particular – from sexual exploitation instigated by construction workers, to whether a project is designed for the safety and accessibility of all genders – poses a material risk throughout the lifecycle of infrastructure projects. This is all the more critical in the wake of COVID-19, as rates of gender-based violence are rising worldwide while governments are simultaneously investing in infrastructure as part of response and recovery initiatives. It is vital to recognize the critical role governments play in infrastructure investment.
