The growing prominence of artificial intelligence (AI) poses, as President Biden stated, “enormous potential and enormous danger” for global peace and security. Generative AI can multiply disinformation that contributes to instability, violence, and atrocities, as well as perpetuate and exacerbate harmful biases. But AI can also bring innovation that makes peace processes more inclusive and enhances conflict analysis and early warning models. This session will explore how AI can either worsen or help reduce and prevent violence and violent conflict, and how the international community can adopt AI standards and norms that build sustainable peace.
