Data Transparency, Community, and Capital Allocation: A LGBTQ+ Lens

Patrick Driscoll Chasing Rainbows VC

The lack of demographic data for certain underrepresented communities, particularly within the LGBTQ+ community, has resulted in a lack of resources and information about remarkable founders and investors. Recent mandates in California, Massachusetts, and New York to collect this demographic data are a step towards addressing these issues. However, there are concerns about the potential impact of recent anti-trans and LGBT policies, which could jeopardize the progress made so far.

Furthermore, the LGBTQ+ founder and investor community has experienced significant growth in efforts to empower itself. Given the community’s history of overcoming obstacles and discrimination, this initiative could also outline the available resources for aspiring founders and investors, potentially serving as a model for other communities.
