Decentralised business models to empower local communities to become ecosystem stewards and unlock access to the carbon market with climate tech.

Irina Fedorenko Flying Forests International and Vlinder Climate

Facilitated by Dr. Lauren Fletcher and Dr. Irina Fedorenko-Aula, serial entrepreneurs and cofounders of Flying Forests, this session will focus on successful case studies of innovative technologies and market-driven decentralised business models that allow local communities to take ownership of their ecosystem and reap the benefits in a just manner. The session will cover the carbon market model from Kenya where local tree planters are aggregated though the satellite-based AI-powered data to access the carbon market and start turning profit on their planting efforts. Another case will be presented by a local NGO from Peru on how using drones allowed them to speed up ecosystem restoration and enhance biodiversity. A case about mangroves planting in Indonesia and Myanmar will cover how different stakeholders from the government, universities and private sector can transform the life of people living in the frontlines of climate change.
