Funding the Future: Grantmaker Strategies in AI Investment

The session will draw from Project Evident’s recent research, Funding the Future: Grantmaker Strategies in AI Investment, surfacing emerging practices across 38 philanthropic foundations that have funded AI implementations for their grantee. This session will 1) highlight the opportunities and gaps in practice and knowledge that prevent grantmakers from funding AI implementations for grantees and 2) provide actionable steps for funders to move forward. A panel discussion will provide multiple perspectives, including the lead author of new research on Funding the Future, a program officer who is funding AI and can share their approach, and an AI-powered nonprofit CEO who can bear witness to the challenges of raising funds for AI.
