Harnessing Philanthropic Partnerships to Spark Change in Commercial Real Estate

Ayris Scales Nareit (the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts)

To have a truly efficient, dynamic, and beneficial commercial real estate industry that works for everyone, REITs and commercial real estate companies must come together to ensure that diverse voices are included and valued at all levels of internal and external decision-making. In this session, panelists from REITs, philanthropic organizations, and other commercial real estate industry organizations will discuss:
• How to identify gaps, priorities, and opportunities at an industry level and leverage philanthropy as a tool to address gaps and capitalize on opportunities.
• The benefits—and challenges—of taking a collective approach toward fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• The key factors companies need to consider when building an industry coalition to execute diversity, equity, and inclusion goals, using Nareit’s Dividends Through Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DDEI) initiative as a case study.
• The key factors that business and philanthropies must consider—and get right—to form a win-win partnership based on real case studies from philanthropic organizations.
• Key strategies for effectively using grants to fund grass roots and other campaigns to hit important DEI KPIs and overarching goals.
• Lessons learned about the grant process, including applying for grants, overseeing grants, and efficiently using grant funds.
