Announcing the SOCAP24 Agenda — Going Deeper: Catalyzing Systems Change!

Harnessing the power of plants to solve the world’s malnutrition crisis.

Chris Grayson The Power of Nutrition

There are currently more than 30 million children worldwide suffering from acute malnutrition – the most life-threatening form of malnutrition where children are extremely vulnerable without urgent treatment. 30 million is more children than in the United States – and they’re all suffering.

The sector has historically looked to a treatment called ‘ready-to-use therapeutic food’ as a cure. It’s fantastically effective, but only one in three children suffering receives it. More needs to be done and fast – especially as global malnutrition rates, off the back of the Covid pandemic, global conflict and now climate change, are on the rise again.

We would like to use this session to present an alternative: a new recipe for the treatment that relies on local plant-based ingredients that is not only more effective in treating acute malnutrition, it’s better for the planet too.

We can no longer continue with the status quo when it comes to treating malnutrition. This exciting innovation presents a unique investment opportunity to help us tackle one of the world’s most pressing, yet overlooked, problems.
