How to unlock the potential of DAFs

Beatriz Guillen The Resource Foundation

There are $230 billion invested in Donor Advised Funds (DAFs) in the US in 2 million accounts (the number of accounts has nearly doubled since 2018). The reach of DAFs is so extensive that more than one out of every four dollars that citizens in the US donate to charity goes to a DAF. Gifts to DAFs yield an immediate tax break for the donor but may take years to be put to charitable use. DAF contributors are encouraged to think like investors, not charitable donors.

The session would include panelists advocating for reforms in DAF regulations to increase charitable donations (Accelerate Charitable Giving), someone from traditional organizations managing DAFs (Fidelity Charitable, the largest DAF, and Goldman Sachs) and someone from an organization with innovative solutions to invest DAFs (MIT Solve).
