Investing in Equity: Rightsizing how Funders Invest in Historically Marginalized Founders

Selam Kebrom Camelback Ventures

The impact financing landscape is witnessing a significant shift as founders and funders increasingly advocate for changes to how capital is channeled. However, Black, Indigenous, people of color (BIPOC), women, nonbinary and other systemically underfinanced founders are conspicuously absent from this movement, despite creating social ventures that serve the overlooked majority. Just as we expect founders to design products and services that meet the needs of their target markets, funders must also proactively put in the effort to do the same for the entrepreneurs they invest in. This panel delves into how investors and funders might better support marginalized founders to access the right kind of financial resources in order to build the ventures this world desperately needs.
