Investor Readiness for Indigenous Innovation: Disrupting the Green Finance Status Quo

Sara Jolena Wolcott Sequoia Samanvaya

What does it take to be a successful investor in Indigenous-led enterprises that tackle climate and conservation challenges? While the recent news has been full of disastrous climate finance with federal governments, a growing number of investors and philanthropists are moving capital to community based, Indigenous innovators instead. Ahead of us is an era where Indigenous innovators, partnered with the right capital providers, can scale up climate and conservation solutions. This session will highlight key lessons from impact funds in the Amazon, investments in Alaska Native regenerative kelp farming, and sustainable agriculture and other regenerative livelihoods in Southern India. Learn from the last decade of experiences of investments into indigenous innovation, including what types of partnerships, deal structures, and integrated capital approaches are working. A panel of seasoned Indigenous innovators and their partners from around the globe will provide powerful examples of Indigenous innovation partnerships to be invested in and replicated.
