News You Can Use: How Media and Data Journalism Drive Solutions in Climate Investing

At a time of intersecting planetary crises, data journalism is an underutilized tool in shaping sustainable finance and climate solutions. This session will showcase how media organizations work with strategic partners to use open data, geospatial analysis, investigative techniques, a global place-based network of reporters, and solutions journalism to ground truth and report on drivers of deforestation and deforestation hotspots identified through near real-time satellite imagery. Through real-world examples of data collaborations and reporting (including Global Forest Watch, Planet, and Mongabay’s Data Studio), panelists will show how data journalism can provide the information required for the public, the private sector, and policymakers to drive high-impact opportunities for climate and nature-based investment and action.
