Prioritizing California Tribal Voices in Maritime Industrie

Blended financial mechanisms are nothing new to California’s coastline. However for this session you will learn on how California Tribal communities are sharpening their tools in deploying innovative initiatives around ecological restoration, food systems, and inter-Tribal nation building like commerce, language and arts. Recent proposed projects like the Fish Farm and Wind Turbines in the Humboldt Bay threaten the ecological diversity that makes California so unique to the region and loved by the world. California Tribal Peoples have relied on the Ocean for survival and sustenance for thousands of years however are often excluded from public and private decision-making tables. Now California Tribal Peoples and Tribal communities are utilizing philanthropy and blended capital for innovative research and developing comprehensive strategies ranging from climate adaptation and holistic wellness. In this session we will also discuss topics around workforce development, policy-making, and different research capacities (i.e. ecological, social, economic) that are changing Californias coast as we speak. Come and learn of a few examples and ways to get involved!
