Triple Impact: How Endowment Guarantees Unlock Local-Currency Lending in Africa

Impact capital overwhelmingly still flows into Africa in US dollars with currency risk silently passed to borrowers least able to absorb it. This session presents a first-of-its-kind, live deal in which a foundation’s endowment balance sheet acts as a guarantee to unlock Kenyan-shilling loans to low-fee schools without ever touching grant budgets. Speakers from TLG Capital, IDP Foundation, and MIT’s Kuo Sharper Center will walk participants through the structure and facilitate a hands-on workshop to map how attendees can adapt it for their own portfolios, sectors, and geographies. Participants leave with a replicable, open-source, and ready-to-use legal and financial architecture.
