Announcing the SOCAP24 Agenda — Going Deeper: Catalyzing Systems Change

SOCAP Global July 11, 2024

Connect with Community and Find Inspiration to Catalyze Systems Change

Now is the time to dig in — to impact, to bridge divides, to envision a new system, to build a stronger community. The SOCAP24 agenda is intentionally designed around the theme of Going Deeper: Catalyzing Systems Change, building on more than 16 years of annual convenings to shape and drive collective global impact. This year’s event will further facilitate authentic relationship-building across silos, geographics, approaches, and philosophies to move capital toward investible, scalable solutions.

The SOCAP Global conference is the largest convening of its kind, showcasing a powerful collective experience, taking place from October 28 to 30, 2024, in downtown San Francisco. It is designed to meet attendees’ individual needs and help them drive their mission forward, with a focus on powerful sessions, actionable workshops, and opportunities to connect.

“Our plenary sessions will provide a space for participants to discover catalytic approaches to problems we collectively face, explore powerful opportunities, and highlight innovations for systems change,” says Michelle Arévalo-Carpenter, SOCAP Global’s Executive Director of Strategy & Content. “Our workshops will go deep on practical tools and immersive experiences. Building on our networking approaches last year, we’re again providing ample space for planned and serendipitous connections, intentional networking sessions, and our event app, which is designed to encourage and enable the one-on-one connections that can take us all from theory to action.”

How SOCAP24 Sessions Are Designed for Attendees to Go Deeper in Impact

SOCAP is known for holding a place for the full spectrum of impact, whether you’re looking for an introduction into the space, searching for a community of like-minded practitioners, or in need of technical conversation. The cerebral and grounding nature of the plenary sessions is balanced with opportunities for attendees to reconnect with the community and find inspiration.

Our opening and closing plenary sessions are designed to set the stage, frame the conversation, and invite participants to approach our three days together — and the months after the event — with the true spirit of collaboration that SOCAP is built for,” says Arévalo-Carpenter.

With three full days of content, conversations, and relationship-building, the agenda makes the most of our time together in San Francisco. The event kicks off first thing on October 28 with our Opening Ceremony and Opening Plenary and wraps up the afternoon of October 30 with a Closing Plenary and Garden Party! While speakers and a few additional sessions are being finalized, we’re eager to share the agenda so you can plan your SOCAP24 schedule and travel. (Keep an eye out for additional details, speakers, and updates in the coming weeks!)

In response to attendee feedback, this year, we are concentrating the number of breakout sessions to have the time to dig in with fellow session attendees — and space to keep the conversation going beyond the sessions. As with last year, the event’s content curation process incorporates a distributed approach to conference programming. Along with those selected through SOCAP Open, the sessions within each of the eight content tracks for SOCAP24 have been co-created and curated by Content Curation Councils of 26 experts from around the world, working closely with our content and production teams.

New Content Highlights for SOCAP24:

  • Brief and Bold sessions: 14 succinct and powerful keynote-style talks dedicated to exploring different approaches and ways to catalyze systems change. These presentations will showcase the diversity and breadth of approaches, offering attendees a chance to hear from practitioners, intermediaries, and observers to enhance our collective understanding of approaching meaningful and lasting transformation.
  • Artificial Intelligence track: We have an entire track dedicated to AI, with sessions curated for relevance to our community covering the intersection of impact investing and machine learning. We’ll go beyond the flashy news headlines to unearth practical, insightful applications and approaches, and we are injecting a healthy dose of controversy for attendees to respectfully explore various viewpoints on the topic.

Make the Most of Your Time to (Re)Connect at SOCAP24

We recognize that networking opportunities are an incredibly valuable component for impact leaders when attending in-person events. At SOCAP24, we are looking to go beyond networking: We are designing opportunities for people to connect more deeply, build trust, and, ultimately, develop radical collaborations for impact.

Intentional Networking Opportunities for SOCAP24:

  • “Creative Tensions” sessions: Interactive workshops that explore seemingly opposing viewpoints. Participants are invited to stand for their opinions and rethink where they stand as they see where their peers stand.
  • “Fishbowl” session: Participants will be seated in a circle and take turns passing the microphone to build on a conversation together. This format accelerates the pace at which participants learn about different perspectives and discover new, interesting people who might bring innovative ideas to their thinking.
  • “Intentional Connections” sessions: Part speed networking and part friendship circles, these sessions promise to truly connect participants across interests, regions and sectors — all within 60 minutes.
  • Curated connections between investors and our SOCAP Fellows: Through our partnership with Toniic, investors attending SOCAP have access to Toniic’s unique investor matching platform. Learn more about this opportunity!
